FASHION, VOGUE, PROJECT RUNWAY
For this session fashion designers Amanda Moore and Danielle Wyman were invited to come share their work with the teens and also assist them in their challenge for the evening. Both designers work were very different than each other which gave the teen’s two different perspectives on fashion design.
Danielle’s work is more focused on fashion as a one of a kind wearable art piece. She spoke to the teens about constructing unique pieces of clothing that are drawn from various means of inspiration. | Amanda’s work is more focused on clothing that can be reproduced and manufactured to sell in multiple boutiques. She spoke to the teens about the business side of her self made company and also the reason why she creates. |
After Amanda and Danielle were finished presenting I separated the teens into three groups and presented them with their challenge of the day.
Create an article of clothing or outfit inspired by a piece of artwork in the gallery. | Create an article of clothing or outfit that is in some way interactive with other people. |
Group One's Designs
High-low skirt designed and created by the very fashion forward and avant garde artists: Tori, Katharine, and Megan.
This groups challenge was to fashion an article of clothing inspired by a piece in any of Philbrook Downtown's galleries. The chose the oil painting Chandelier Mayhem (red) by Garry Simmons.
Group Two's Designs
Shirt, hat and purse designed by the very creative, sassy, and funky group: Gerasia, Rachel, and Aleca. Their challenge was to make their clothing interactive. They completed this by interacting with each other. Rachel made the shirt, Aleca made the hat, and Gerasia made the purse. "We had to interact with each other to make sure all of our designs and colors went with each other to create an outfit." - Gerasia |
Group Three's Designs
Corduroy pants with suspenders, green stretch skirt, and floral top designed and sewn together by trendy, quirky, yet classy artists: Natalie, Tommy, and Sarah.
This groups challenge was to create clothes that were in someway interactive. The originally planned out a skirt that transformed into many different skirt/ top combinations when someone flipped the skirt up and down, however once they got started they had so much fun creating that they forgot about the challenge and instead made what they wanted. Props for knowing what you want and sticking to it guys.
"Best session yet! So much fun!"
